Instructions and Help about Homeport uscg application status

Having a Coast Guard Cutter SiC and a canned Coast Guard Cutter Shrike back here in Sandy Hook, New Jersey has put the Coast Guard in a better operational readiness status. When we were up in Bayonne, it was a little further. In short, we have to respond to a search and rescue case offshore. It's much easier from Sandy Hook to quickly get out around the hook and have to respond to the Mariners in distress. Also, all of our maintenance support, the vast majority of it, is here in Sandy Hook and has been here while we were up in Bayonne. So, we'll be able to do maintenance faster or more effectively and more efficiently. Besides being better in the mission, we were also able to be a better part of our community here. We're only temporarily here in Sandy Hook, but this is our home or a part of the community. Whether it's having Boy Scouts aboard, like we had them aboard a couple of weeks ago, or engaging with Mast Academy here in Sandy Hook, we have to be a part of the community, live in the community, and also hire our local contractors here to work aboard our ship. So, boaters within the Sandy Hook area and offshore can expect the Coast Guard Cutter SiC and the canned Coast Guard Cutter Shrike to come alongside and conduct law enforcement boardings. We're going to mostly focus on safety because if you're out there and you sink, you have a problem. We're the ones who are going to have to come out there and assist you, so we want to make sure you have life jackets, especially for kids, fire extinguishers, and if you're a commercial fishing vessel, we're going to check your safety gear as well....
